Joan MacNaughton has been an influential figure in the energy policy debate in a variety of roles and has been Senior Vice President, Power and Environmental Policies at Alstom Power since 2007.
Joan is an Honorary Fellow and Vice President of the Council of the Energy Institute, a Senior Research Fellow at the Oxford Institute for Energy Studies and member of the Board of Governors, Argonne Laboratory at the University of Chicago. She is a Companion of the Order of the Bath.
Joan leads Alstom’s policy department and spearheads the company’s clean power campaign. Her expertise is focused on Alstom’s campaign to advance clean, sustainable energy and reduce power generation CO2 emissions.
Joan has played a key role in shaping UK energy policy. As Director General of Energy she delivered several major changes and contributed to international energy policy, including overseeing the energy agenda during the UK Presidency of the EU and leading the energy work agreed at the G8 Gleneagles Summit.
She was also Chair of the Governing Board of the International Energy Agency, delivering a significant reform programme during her two years in the post and leading the Board’s emergency response to the supply disruption caused by Hurricane Katrina.
