Qanita Qamarani-

Born in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, Qanita is 14 years old. She started painting when she was four and has won 50 awards. Her artistic talents have taken her to Germany, Japan, Norway and the United States. When she was 8, her painting entitled “Education Builds Future” won a poster competition which is organized by United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA). In 2005, the UN Habitat Fukuoka in Japan published a calendar illustrated by winning artworks including Qanita’s. Her painting was selected as 5th global winner by the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) in 2006. She was the Indonesia Arts Olympiad co-winner and represented her country at the World Children’s Festival 2007. The same year she was invited to attend the Children’s Conference on Climate Change in Surabaya, Indonesia. In 2008 she was selected as delegate to UNEP’s Tunza International Children’s Conference on the Environment in Stavanger, Norway. She was interviewed by Dutch Radio Amsterdam and talked about how to save the environment by acting locally and thinking globally. Both of Qanita’s parents are architects and her older brother is an artist. She is in 9th grade and plays piano. Her artworks has been featured in Stone Soup magazine and ChildArt magazine. Qanita enjoys scientific experimentation and wants to be an environmental activist. She campaigns to plant trees along roads and on empty spaces to make a better environment. She is invited to student talk show programs on Indonesian television where she plays the piano and talks about her work as an environmental activist to inspire other children.
