Eric Tsai. Chief Executive Officer, eriQoo.com
Eric Tsai is the CEO and founder of eriQoo.com, a Chinese/Japanese bilingual search engine startup company, and the CEO of Dynasty Holding Limited, a private equity firm. He is primary based out of Tokyo, yet travels oversea intensively.
Mr. Tsai founded eriQoo.com in 2006. Before launching eriQoo.com, Mr. Tsai had a global education, attending primary schools in Taipei, high school in the United States, and university in Japan. While attending university, Mr. Tsai gained experience working at Mitsubishi, where he assisted the Oversea Business Division in the export of automobile to Central and South America, as well as South East Asia.
Mr. Tsai was a Credit Suisse alumnus, working as a fixed income trader and derivative structurer. He joined the prestigious bank in the Investment Banking Department, where he worked on several mergers and acquisitions transactions, before being transferred to the Fixed Income Department.
In 2006, Mr. Tsai began gathering investors for his Internet start-up company, eriQoo.com, a search engine that allows users to discover the best information in a better way. Traditional search engines contain millions of listings for the keyword "doctor." eriQoo.com uses quantitative statistics and user opinion to help users sort through those millions of listings and find the best doctor via eriQoo.com’s ranking and recommendation technology. eriQoo.com combines data analysis and user opinion to create easy-to-find ratings and recommendations about nearly anything.
Aided by both private and institutional investors, Mr. Tsai founded eriQoo.com in 2006, with the site going into beta later that year. Using the motto "Because better matters" as an organizing principle, the website quickly became one of the fastest growing internet properties in Japan. The company has now near a hundred engineers, with Mr. Tsai managing an international staff located in four overseas offices while continuing to work in Tokyo.
In November of 2011, Mr. Tsai became CEO of Dynasty Holding Limited, a global private equity firm with a Pan-Asian emphasis. Its investment strategy is based on projects taking the advanced technology and experience of Japanese industry and applying it to the emerging opportunities in the Chinese market. Dynasty Holdings is managing an initial fund of 100 billion Japanese yen ($1.4 billion USD).
Mr. Tsai earned his bachelor's degree at Sophia University in Japan, where he majored in International Business and Economics. Mr. Tsai was named one of "Asia's Best Under 25" by BusinessWeek magazine in 2006, and he was later voted number one of "Asia's Best Entrepreneur Under 25" by the readers of BusinessWeek in 2007. He was a frequently invited speaker for the Harvard Business Conference, where he delivered 4 speeches from 2007 to 2011, and also guest speaker to Beijing University in 2009. In 2010, Mr. Tsai was named the Chinese CEO of the Year by the Ministry of Commerce of China, and was speaker to 2011 Global Competitiveness Forum.
