Joseph Adelegan

Dr. Joseph Adelegan, a Chartered Civil and Structural Engineer earned a PhD in Civil and Environmental Engineering. He is an Alumnus of the University of California, Berkeley, USA and the John F. Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University, Cambridge, USA. He is an Ashoka Fellow, an Inventor-Social Entrepreneur supported by US-Based Lemelson Foundation, a Salzburg Fellow, a 2009 Technology Award Laureate of the Technology Museum of Innovation, San Jose, California, USA, a 2009 Technology Pioneer of the World Economic Forum, Geneva, Switzerland, a 2008 Principal Voices on the “Economics of Energy” by CNN in association with Shell, Times and Fortune Magazine www.cnn.com/principalvoices, a 2007 Revolutionary Mind Award Recipient of the SEED Media Group, New York, USA, a 2006 Young Global Leader of the World Economic Forum, Geneva, Switzerland. He has made appearances in international telecast including CNN, BBC and VOA.
His innovation on renewable energy has also been featured by several international media including Fortune Magazine, Times Magazine, Businessweek, The Bankers (United Kingdom), The Economist Magazine, World Intellectual Property Magazine, SEED Magazine, Africa Good News Book and World Economic Forum Love Book among others. He is the President of Green Globe Trust, a Foundation involved in policy dialogue and campaign on the issues of eco-efficiency, green productivity and climate change in Africa. He is also the Founder of the Global Network for Environment and Economic Development Research; an African Frontline Think-Tank involved in environment and sustainable development issues. He is also the Founder of the Cows to Kilowatts Partnership Limited, a technology innovation social business involved in eco-solution and renewable energy projects in Africa.
Dr. Adelegan also served Public Service as the Project Director for the US $200 million World Bank Assisted Lagos Metropolitan Development and Governance Project. He was a Faculty of the United Nations University, International Leadership Institute (ILI), Amman, Jordan and the United Nations University, Institute of Natural Resources Management for Africa (INRA), Accra, Ghana. He is in great demand as an international conference speaker in Africa, Asia, Europe, Middle East and North America spreading over 50 countries.
He is a recipient of several international awards, fellowships and scholarships on environment and sustainable development issues. He is a winner of the prestigious 2005 Supporting Entrepreneurs for Environment and Development (SEED) International Awards www.seedinit.org on an innovation dubbed “Cows to Kilowatts” converting slaughterhouse waste into renewable energy. SEED is supported by IUCN-The World Conservation Union, UNDP, UNEP, Swiss Re-Insurance, Global Compact, the Government of United Kingdom, Germany, South Africa, Norway, Netherlands and the United States of America. He is also a winner of the 2008 World Bank Lighting Africa Development Marketplace Competition www.lightingafrica.org on another CDM innovation dubbed “Power to the Poor” converting cassava waste to off-grid lighting for rural poor in Africa. Lighting Africa is supported by Global Environment Facility (GEF), World Bank Energy Sector Management Assistance Program (ESMAP), Public-Private Infrastructure Advisory Facility (PPIAF), Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Partnership (REEEP), Good Energies Incorporated, The World Bank Group, The Government of Luxembourg, Norway and Sweden. |
