Mauro Borges Lemos,

President, Brazilian Agency for Industrial Development

 

Mauro Borges Lemos is an economist with a doctorate in economics from the London University. He was a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Illinois and the University of Paris. Mauro Borges Lemos is a full professor at the Federal University of Minas Gerais, in Brazil, where he held different positions and served as General Director for the Center for Regional Development and Planning (Cedeplar). He served as board member for different Brazilian and international professional and research societies.


Appointed by President Dilma Rousseff, Mauro Borges Lemos became the President of the Brazilian Agency for Industrial Development in February 2011. Before taking his current position, he served as technical consultant on different ABDI projects, supporting the design, analysis and assessment of the previous versions of the Brazilian industrial policy. In his current capacity, he led the design of Brazil’s new industrial policy, launched by President Rousseff on August 2nd, 2011. As part of his duties at ABDI, he’s the Executive Secretary for the National Council for Industrial Development (CNDI), which gathers senior Brazilian civil society representatives and ministers.
Mauro Borges Lemos also chairs the board of the Belo Horizonte Tech Park - bh.tech.
