Jack Martin
Global Executive Chairman & CEO, Hill & Knowlton
Jack Martin is global executive chairman and chief executive officer of Hill & Knowlton, Inc. Prior to leading the global firm, Martin was founding chairman of Public Strategies, Inc., which was acquired by WPP of London in 2006 and merged with Hill & Knowlton in 2010.
Since founding Public Strategies in 1988, Martin has overseen the rapid growth of the firm, which today advises clients at the forefront of a range of industries, from financial services to technology, healthcare and retail, among many others. He has led a strong senior management team with impressive corporate and public experience, a blue-chip client list and focus on strategic counsel at the board and executive levels for its Fortune 500 clients.
For over 20 years, Martin has devoted his time and energy to managing large client relationships involving numerous and complex business transactions around the world. He has personally managed the communications, government affairs, brand and investor relations strategy for leaders at some of the world’s largest corporations. Martin pioneered a new model in business advisory consulting to expand typical concepts of "the public" to include employees, stockholders, community and political leaders, government agencies, the media, as well as customers and consumers. This business model, which helps firms to manage all of their interactions with the public from one strategic platform, has been trademarked as the "Fifth Seat." The model focuses on public trust, helping turn corporate reputation into competitive advantage and is today viewed as an essential part of a company’s corporate strategy.
Martin's career has been significantly shaped by his association with his long-time friend and mentor U.S. senator Lloyd Bentsen, beginning with his first job as travel aide at the age of 21, and serving as executive assistant and campaign manager for two of Bentsen's re-election campaigns.
Martin serves on the board of the Smithsonian National Museum of American History. He also serves on the Board of the LBJ Foundation, which supports public policy education at the University of Texas’s LBJ School of Public Affairs and the Lyndon Baines Johnson Presidential Library and Archives.
